How to Care for and Clean Your Aquamarine Jewellery

How to care for Aquamarine Rings

Aquamarine jewellery can be a colourful and timeless addition to any collection. With its calming blue tones, you will certainly want to keep this gemstone looking its best. Here’s a straightforward guide to caring for your aquamarine jewellery, ensuring it stays as beautiful as the day you bought it.

Cleaning Your Aquamarine Jewellery

Like any gemstone proceed with caution – if you’ve had a ring for a while you might want to take it back to the jeweller or a specialist to check the setting! At AC Silver we recommend you bringing your purchase back to us annually for a check and clean, completely complimentary!

Beyond this we recommend the following steps to keep your stunning aquamarine sparkle all year round:

Mild Soap and Water:

Mix lukewarm water with a couple drops of mild soap. Avoid anything too harsh, as it can damage the stone or the metal.

Soft Brush:

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush (like a child’s toothbrush) to gently scrub the stone and setting. Pay attention to crevices where dirt can build up.

Rinse Thoroughly:

After cleaning, rinse the toothbrush with clean water and gently go back over the stone to remove any soap residue.

Dry Carefully:

Pat dry with a tissue or towel before polishing with a jewellery cloth. If you’re really keen use an eye loupe to get a close up and tweeze out any leftover fibres! This is what we would usually do but to the human eye fibres can rarely be spotted so don’t worry if you’re happy after a good clean and polish!

NOTE: Avoid using personal ultrasonic cleaners or harsh chemicals, as these can harm the stone or weaken the setting.

Storing Your Aquamarine Jewellery

Proper storage is key to maintaining your precious jewellery so here are a few tips to ensure your aquamarine gems stay in stunning condition:

Jewellery Boxes

Keep your aquamarine jewellery in an antique trinket box to prevent scratches and keep them safe! An antique box can not only be great to store your gems in but can also be an interesting and unique interior design choice when decorating with vintage trinket boxes! Many speciality jewellery boxes are lined with materials like silk or velvet to ensure your jewellery is carefully stored!

Avoid Humidity

Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight or moisture.

Remove Before Activities

Store your jewellery in a soft pouch or pop into a box before doing any physical activities from the gym to washing up! Working out with your aquamarine rings or jewellery on may result in it being scratch or knocked, whilst cleaning products might expose it to chemicals, heavy knocks, or dirt.

Cleaning your aquamarine rings

Caring for your aquamarine jewellery doesn’t have to be complicated. With these simple steps, you can keep your rings and other pieces looking their best for years to come but don’t forget if you’ve purchased from us you can always send it back for a professional check and clean!
