The Love Story
The pair met for the first time in 2006 on Saturday Night Live which her now husband, Colin Jost, is a writer for. Colin remembers meeting her when she hosted the show and described her as being “beautiful, smart, sweet, and intimidatingly sophisticated”. Scarlett describes her first memory of Colin being in 2010 when she hosted SNL again and appeared in a sketch he had written and was helping direct.
At the time she was was married to actor Ryan Reynolds but they were divorced not long later. Scarlett later married Romain Dauriac, a French journalist with whom she shares a daughter. They separated in 2017 and Scarlett hosted SNL once again and she and Colin were seen together in the bar at the season finale party. Sources said this had been going on for a bit and that they liked each other but they weren’t exclusive.
The pair were spotted together at dinner or on vacation throughout 2017 and Colin confirmed their relationship on the Emmy’s red carpet saying “She’s pretty cool…it’s hard to have a lot of complaints, she’s pretty awesome. I’m very happy. I feel very lucky.” The two of them embraced during the closing credits of an SNL episode that December and in April 2018 they walked the Avengers: Infinity War carpet together.
In May 2019 a publicist confirmed their engagement and in July at a comic panel for Black Widow, Scarlett wore her engagement ring, featuring a pear-shaped diamond. In December 2019 Scarlett hosted SNL for a sixth time saying “I just want to say that this place means so much to me. I have so many friends here, and I met the love of my life here. Merry Christmas.” Through the Meals on Wheels Instagram, the couple announced that they married on the 29th October 2020.
In August 2021, they shared they had welcomed a son together. The couple have appeared together in commercials for Amazon’s Alexa and Scarlett’s skincare brand, The Outset. The two were recently pictured together at the start of 2025 at the SNL 50th anniversary celebrations.
The Ring’s Diamond, Design and Details
The engagement ring is a striking piece rumoured to be worth $400,000. It features a large pear-shaped light brown diamond said to be between 10.70 and 11 carats. The diamond may be a type IIa diamond which are chemically the most pure and are the rarest, making this an extra special item. The jeweller who crafted the ring has not been confirmed but has been likened to the work of James de Givenchy. He is a French designer and the nephew of Hubert de Givenchy, the founder of, New York-based jewellery company, Taffin. James de Givenchy’s work combines antique diamonds and gems with unexpected materials for example rubber or steel. On Scarlett’s ring, the stone is set on a black band, possibly ceramic, which curves beneath the wider bottom half of the diamond. Colin revealed that Scarlett briefly lost her engagement ring, thinking she had “accidentally threw it in the trash” which he searched though to find only to no success and it transpired it was in her pocket.
